Bonfire Night is officially here today and a lot of fun is to be had, but not following the rules can risk 'unlimited' fines and prison.

This easygoing evening could potentially be ruined just by lighting fireworks at the wrong time. On November 5, it is essential to be know the strict rules around fireworks use or else face an 'unlimited' fine and six months in prison.In fact, people can be slapped with an on-the-spot fine £90 for using fireworks illegally.This Bonfire Night, Scots are permitted to light fireworks from 6pm until midnight.

New rules by the Scottish Government outline extended times people can set off fireworks on certain holidays. Other occasions include New Year’s Eve, the night of Chinese New Year and the night of Diwali
