Bodies of more than 900 civilians found near Kyiv after Russian withdrawal

More than 900 civilian bodies have been found near the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, the area's regional police chief has said.

The bodies have been discovered in the wake of Russia forces withdrawing from around the capital city. Andriy Nebytoc, head of Kyiv's regional police force, claims the bodies were abandoned in the streets or received temporary burials.

He referred to official police data which indicated that 95 per cent of those found died form gunshot wounds. He added: "Consequently, we understand that under the [Russian] occupation, people were simply executed in the streets. It comes as the Russian Defence Ministry continues to deliver threats of increased shelling on the Ukrainian capital. Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said: "The number and the scale of missile attacks on objects in Kyiv will be ramped up in response to the Kyiv nationalist regime committing any terrorist attacks or diversions on the Russian territory." Russia has begun to withdraw from around Kyiv to focus its attention on the eastern areas.
