A dramatic blaze that alarmed east London residents and could be heard from across the River Thames was actually a controlled sequence for a BBC production.There was quite a stir amongst the local community as emergency services were spotted attending the scene, and social media lit up with local residents reporting hearing loud bangs.
Pictures swiftly emerged on social media the evening of Saturday (August 31), showing alarming views of fire and smoke rising high into the air, with the incident taking place at Trinity Bouy Wharf an arts centre location just opposite the O2 Arena in London.
Posts spreading across social media indicated that the main source of the blaze was a BBC shipping container after "enormous" explosions were heard.
Some witnesses even suggested that a BBC lorry had exploded.
