reported in the Manchester Evening News the force has started an internal inquiry after admitting its response to a youth pulling a blade on other youngsters and threatening an adult member of the public "fell well below" its expected standards.

A veteran firefighter who tried to tackle a knifeman - who said he would stab him - was threatened with arrest when he slammed police.In a bizarre text message exchange he was told by a GMP officer he could end up in custody for his 'malicious communications' and 'cheek'.Sam Smart, 63, sprang into action when he spotted a thug with a blade arguing with other youths on Tuesday evening on Moston Lane, Moston.He intervened to protect three boys then chased after the suspect who then turned on Mr Smart.
