A winter’s evening of icy rain and gusting winds swirled around St Aidan’s High School but inside it was warmth and an intensive and an enjoyable schools competition.This annual event hosted by Allanton Jolly Beggars Burns Club attracted competitors from Allanton, Cathedral, St Aidan’s and St Thomas Primary schools.President Murdo Morrison welcomed the large audience and handed the proceedings to Joyce Goldie.The main categories were for singing and verse speaking all of which gave the adjudicators – Ann Mathieson, Heather Ewart and Stewart Houston – a difficult task in selecting winners from the wealth of talent available.Presentation of awards were made by Provost Jean Jones, North Lanarkshire Council and Jamie Chapman a local businessman
