For many, putting up the Christmas tree is the highlight of the festive season as they enjoy deciding where to place the baubles, tinsel and fairy lights.
Most tree decorations can be placed anywhere, but many people tend to cover their trees in twinkly lights by curling each set fully around the plant. But one woman, who has professional tree decorating experience, claims this is the "wrong" way to position the lights.
In a viral TikTok video that has racked up over six million views, @Mrsclarehoops demonstrates how using the "zig zag" method to put up lights is more efficient."If you're curling your Christmas tree lights, you're doing it wrong," she said. "Decorating Christmas trees used to be part of my job - we used the zig zag method."She then places a set of fairy lights on her tree vertically, starting from the top of the tree and moving down to the bottom in a zig zag pattern until all the lights are used.
When finished, you can then push the lights inward to hide any exposed wires. According to Clare, you won't need to place lights on the back of the tree where they won't be seen. "It means you don't waste lights around the back of your tree and if a set breaks you can take them off easily," she concluded.Responses to the tip were mixed, with some viewers stating that people can place their fairy lights how they see fit.
