Golborne High School is set to permanently expand and will see a funding boost of more than £1 million to help make it happen.
A cabinet meeting at Wigan Town Hall saw the approval of recommendations to allow the Lowton Road site to admit 230 pupils in Year 7 as of 2022.
The budget release will be £1.2 million for the construction required to accommodate this many students. It was said at the cabinet meeting on April 21, 2022 that housing developments in the area as well as the increasing success of the school is the cause for soaring demand for places.
This action was taken to avoid the risk of insufficient secondary school places in the area of Lowton and Golborne.
