Manchester United may need to give Adrien Rabiot assurances on the future of Cristiano Ronaldo before a deal for the midfielder can be finalised.
The MEN broke the news on Monday that United have agreed a fee in principle with Juventus of £15million rising to £20million for the 27-year-old but still have to negotiate personal terms with the player's agent – his mother.
The potential deal for the midfielder is the clearest indication yet that a move for Frenkie de Jong may be a step too far for United to complete this transfer window.
The club have not completely ruled out a move for the Dutchman yet, but are starting to prepare for the eventuality that De Jong stays at Barcelona and are therefore lining up alternative midfielders.
