Warehouses demolished at new Lanarkshire supermarket site

Historic former warehouses at a prominent Airdrie location have now been demolished ahead of the site’s transformation into a new supermarket.The century-old buildings of the former Distell International base on Carlisle Road, beside the town’s football stadium, have been knocked down with work continuing to clear the site ahead of planned construction.

It comes a year after Lidl gained unanimously-supported planning permission for a new store at the location, as well as further buildings for a drive-through restaurant and another retail unit.

They had owned the site since 2013; it had been a distillery for more than three decades and was previously known as Burn Stewart.
