Volunteers launch fundraising campaign to settle fleeing Afghan refugees in Scots council area

Afghanistan in a Scots council area. So far 18 volunteers from East Dumbartonshire have raised nearly £6,000 by walking the distance between Syria and Scotland which is just under 3,000 miles.

The team have completed 37% of the journey and are determined to raise a total of £9,000 to offer safe accommodation and support to a refugee family.A post on the fundraising page said: "We are 18 volunteers from East Dunbartonshire, living in towns like Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Lenzie."We are blessed to live in a beautiful area and want to offer safe accommodation and support to a refugee family from somewhere in the world."Too many families' lives are paused because of war and conflict.

Irvine have been thanked for their ‘incredible compassion’ after donating more than 2,000 meals to children and families in need over the summer.Tesco say customers gave 2,310 meals worth of food to it's food collection programme which helps provide emergency food parcels to families in crisis across the country.The supermarket giants teamed up with the charities, Trussell Trust – who will help distribute the packages – and FareShare, who support thousands of frontline groups working to feed children and families.Tesco has topped up all the customer donations with an extra 20 per cent in cash to help the charities in their work.
