Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson Hon FRIBA (born 19 June 1964) is a British politician, writer, and former journalist serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since 2019. He was Foreign Secretary from 2016 to 2018 and Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016. Johnson was Member of Parliament for Henley from 2001 to 2008 and has been MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015. Ideologically, Johnson identifies as a one-nation conservative.

Tories met with boos as protesters gather in Perth before Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak debate

Tory party members have been greeted with boos from independence supporters as they arrived for a leadership hustings in Perth tonight.Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak will go head to head in the only debate to be held in Scotland in the race to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister.

Around 350 protesters gathered outside Perth Concert Hall - with many waving pro-independence flags and anti-Tory banners.Some people could also be seen throwing eggs towards those waiting to get inside.

Veteran anti-austerity campaigner Sean Clerkin was among those to travel to Perth to join the protest. He told the Record: "I'm here to call for support for the many Scots who face a winter without being being able to afford heating."The Scottish and UK Governments need to do everything they can to support the most vulnerable from the cost of living crisis."Both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak have ducked the subject so far - it's time they spoke out."Truss earlier said her priority remains reducing taxes, responding to Labour’s call for an extension of the windfall levy.Keir Starmer has said his party would freeze the energy price cap at its current level of £1,971 for six months from October, paid for in part by an extension of the windfall levy on the profits of the oil and gas companies.Speaking in Scotland, the Tory leadership frontrunner said it was wrong to focus on “sticking plasters”.“We’re still in the leadership contest at the moment.
