police commander has said that he stands by the response to the Rangers title celebrations in George Square. Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, who is the divisional commander for Greater Glasgow, said heavy handed policing can often provoke crowd conflict rather than prevent it.
He added that officers had initially encouraged the crowds to disperse but noted that the scenes of violence which led to 40 arrests were “not a good day for the city,” according to Glasgow Live.
Thousands gathered in George Square in May to celebrate the 55th title win despite the coronavirus restrictions at the time.
