Streaming was the topic for a series of seminars and talk shows at the Tokyo International Film Festival and its TIFFCOM content market.

Anime platform Crunchyroll and Amazon Video extolled the virtues of on-demand viewing, while a panel of Japanese film folk took a more cautious view and expressed concerns about its impact on cinema-going.

Crunchyroll GM Joanne Waage and head of Prime Video Japan Robert Early both pointed out how the pandemic had driven more viewers to their platforms and noted that their companies were commissioning more original content to meet the growing demand.
