With the energy crisis in the UK not letting up anytime soon, households are becoming more concerned with their energy bills skyrocketing in a few months.

Energy prices could increases by as much as 50 per cent for some households, according to statistics from trade body EnergyUK.

In the face of this, one expert has provided some tips and tricks that could help you conserve energy in your home, the Express reports. Read more: Tom Armenante, ecommerce director from DIY and trade supplies company GTSE, said: “With many Britons feeling the penny-pinch following the festive period, many homeowners and renters are looking for ways to keep already costly energy bills down. “In fact, searches for 'energy savings' have seen a 110 percent increase in the past seven days." A key part of saving energy is your curtains, which Mr Armenante says could cut your energy usage by over a quarter.

The expert explained: “Using thick, insulating curtains, and drawing them as soon as the evening comes in, can help keep the heat in, especially if you have drafty windows." Curtains can prevent heat exchange between the cold air around the window and the warm air in the rest of the room. “According to researchers at the University of Salford drawing your curtains in an evening reduces heat loss by up to 17 per cent," Mr Armenante added.
