Halloween is celebrated on every year on October 31 all over the world, with with many countries having their own spooky traditions.

But one place in Scotland has its own way of celebrating, and it involves the festivities taking place on a totally different day to the rest of the country - and the globe. The Ayrshire town of Kilmarnock always celebrates Halloween on the last Friday of October. This year, the so-called Killieween falls on today on Friday, October 28, meaning residents will carry out their spooky activities such as guising and going clubbing on this day.Convenient for many, it means that people can go out and let loose without worrying about getting up for school or work in the morning. For the rest of the world, Halloween falls on Monday next week, which isn't too big of a gap.But in previous years, Killieween has fallen six days before the big day on October 25.There are a couple of theories to why Kilmarnock has chosen to do this.

These range from the Gaelic festival of Samhain to witches being burned or the clocks going back on the Sunday.Another suggestion is that the change in dates is related to the town's industrial past.

The last Friday of the month is also payday for a lot of people, meaning that Killieween allowed more residents to have the cash the celebrate.Having their celebrations on a Friday evening also means that most people will be free to go out and party to their hearts' content without having to face work the next day.Whether people are recovering from a sugar overload or nursing a hangover instead, having Killieween on a Friday seems like a good choice - although it's still unknown exactly why this is.
