Black Lives Matter movement, the country-pop trio behind the Grammy-winning smash “Need You Now” announced on Twitter Thursday that they were renouncing their name because of the racist history of the “Southern ‘Antebellum’ style.” Hence forward, they would be known as Lady A.The only problem is that name already belongs to another artist: a Seattle blues singer who has released multiple albums under the name Lady A.
In fact, the 61-year-old black woman, whose real name is Anita White, is gearing up to release the LP “Live in New Orleans” on July 18, her birthday.“This is my life.
Lady A is my brand, I’ve used it for over 20 years, and I’m proud of what I’ve done,” she told Rolling Stone. “This is too much now.
