The Open cancelled for first time since World War II as golf reschedules other majors

The 149th Open has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and will be played next year. It is the first time since the Second World War that the famous golf major, due to have been played at Royal St George's in Kent, has been cancelled.

But the Championship will resume next year from where it left off - meaning the 150th Open at St Andrews will have to wait until 2022 for a special anniversary tournament that also marks the 30th time the Old Course will have hosted.
