They're some of the most disadvantaged people in Greater Manchester. But asylum seekers in the region have fallen through the gaps when it comes to pandemic-related support, according to charities in the area.
Ineligible for many council services, asylum seekers are having to make 'difficult decisions' to feed their families on the £37 a week they receive from the government, a charity worker has said.
Other vulnerable groups have seen a modest increase in support from central government since lockdown measures were introduced.
Universal Credit claimants have seen their payments rise by £20 a week. And some 200,000 laptops will be lent to careleavers and disadvantaged teenagers as part of a government scheme to make sure they don’t fall
