Taylor Swift has urged Tennessee officials to remove two statues of racist historical figures in the state.The singer took to Twitter on Friday (June 12, 2020), insisting Edward Carmack, a “white supremacist newspaper editor”, and Confederate general-turned-Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forest shouldn’t be honored as heroes.Telling followers she is asking officials at the Capital Commission and the Tennessee Historical Commission to “consider the implications of how hurtful it would be to continue fighting for these monuments”, the singer admits it makes her “sick” to see statues honoring “figures who did evil things”.She accepts that removing or replacing statues of racists won’t solve problems in America, but “it might bring us.
