As we approach the halfway point of Love Island’s 2023 winter run, the mother of islander Tanya Manhenga has opened up about whether Shaq would be a hit with the family.

Polite Manhenga – who has been watching daughter Tanya on Love Island since day one – has revealed to OK! whether she approves of Shaq, and most importantly whether she thinks they’ll go the distance once the show finishes. “I could see a future with them on the outside,” she said. “We are a fun, loving and really happy family and he’d fit right in!” Polite added that she’s glad Tanya picked Shaq over David in the recoupling, adding that Shaq is “100 percent” her daughter’s type in the outside world when it comes to his looks, but the jury is out when it comes to his personality. “I don’t think we’ve seen enough of him to judge his character just yet,” she explained. “He seems like a nice guy but I’d like to get to know him better.” Tanya and Shaq were the first couple on the show to tell each other those big three words: “I love you”.

Polite voiced her concerns about this, due to how fast things move on Love Island in comparison to the outside world. “I think it might be too soon,” she said. “In the real world, things wouldn’t usually go this fast, but given their environment and the fact that his head hasn’t turned - yet! - it would be really nice to see them fall for each other.” She admits to having “mixed feelings” watching Tanya on Love Island, particularly during the raunchier moments on the show.
