Sirens star's frustration as knee surgery wrecks her season again

Strathclyde Sirens star Lynsey Gallagher admits sitting out the 2022 season is difficult, but it’s in her long-term interests.Gallagher, from East Kilbride, underwent knee surgery last season to repair a lateral meniscus injury sustained in a game against Celtic Dragons.Although Lynsey made her comeback later that term, the injury has flared up again, requiring more surgery.The 29-year-old admits she thought about playing on, but says the right decision has been made, and hopes to return to action in May.She said: “It’s really frustrating to miss another season but we were aware there was something not right about my knee, and we wanted to look long-term to the Commonwealth Games and the competitions coming up.“It’s about looking long-term and doing what’s right for my body and my knee.“It’s frustrating, but you have to look at the bigger picture sometimes.“We were going to try and do it conservatively, through rehab, loading it and in the gym and things like that, but after getting medical advice they said the best option would be to operate, to ensure it was strong and good for the long term.“I would rather still be playing in years to come and not have a dodgy knee that’s going to keep me out on the side-lines every season.“Sometimes you’ve just got to be sensible.”Gallagher refuted comments that she came back too early from the original injury, and says it was just bad luck.“The original injury came when I was playing against Celtic Dragons,” she said. “I went to stop along the baseline, jarred it, and thought it was unusual, that it didn’t feel too great.“I tried to run it off, but realised I couldn’t really put much weight through it, so we rehabbed it back.“We did everything right, got the knee strong, and I was
