Shock drug death figures in Scotland: Ayrshire and Arran ranked second worst in the country

Ayrshire has the second highest drugs deaths in Scotland. Annual figures, published by National Records of Scotland today, showed that 1,339 people died of drug misuse in Scotland last year, with the country seeing a record number of deaths for the seventh year in a row.Ayrshire and Arran’s drug related deaths have rose from 7.1 per 100,000 population in the period 2000 to 2004 to a staggering 27.2 per 100,000 population in 2016 to 2020 —making it the second-highest rate of Scottish health board areas.Greater Glasgow and Clyde had the highest rate of all health board areas at 30.8 deaths per 100,000 people with Tayside following Ayrshire and Arran with 25.7 deaths per 100,000 people.The Ayrshire Live app is available to download now.Get all.
