A mum said her one-year-old baby is 'lucky to be alive' after she fell down an escalator in her pram in the Arndale shopping centre.

Emma Chesters, 28, was in the Next store yesterday (Thursday) with her little girl Violet when the horrific incident unfolded.

She said she chose to take her pram up the escalator after seeing a lot of people waiting for the lift, but 'lost grip' of it when they had got about three quarters of the way up.

The pram, and baby Violet who was strapped in, 'somersaulted' to the bottom as horrified shoppers looked on. READ MORE: Mum, 32, diagnosed with cervical cancer after battle with her GP for test Emma, from Wythenshawe, said she 'could hear people screaming' as she rushed down to help her daughter.
