Scottish Government announces 37 coronavirus deaths in Scotland amid 969 new cases

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed In the last 24 hours there have been 969 fresh infections, bring to the total number of cases since the pandemic began in March to 93,155.

The new deaths bring the total loss of life to 3,676.There are 1,099 people currently in hospital and 80 being treated in intensive care for Covid-19.

It comes as the four UK nations agreed a plan for the festive period. Christmas gatherings will be set at eight people over 12 years old in Scotland - and households should stay two metres apart indoors, according to new official guidance.

The Scottish Government published the details for special relaxed rules over the  festive break  between December 23 and 27.
