Scots woman dies hours into Benidorm holiday with wife after tragic accident

A Scots woman has died in a tragic accident in Spain just hours after arriving for a holiday with her wife.Marie Riley, 37, passed away after an incident in the Spanish town of Benidorm on Monday, March 7.

Her heartbroken wife Lynne announced the news to friends and family on social media the next day, prompting an outpouring of responses from friends and family.

The couple, from Paisley, who had been married for four years, travelled with friends to Benidorm on Monday. Pals flooded Facebook with tributes to Paisley woman Marie, who was described as "a beautiful lassie" and "genuinely one in a million".

Megan Smith said: "Lynne I am in complete shock. I am so so sorry. One of the loveliest girls I’ve ever met. Please let us know if you need anything at all."Ronetta Adams added: "Life is so cruel Lynne, take each day as it comes and look after yourself, you have great family and friends who will help you through this tragedy."Our thought are with you all xx sleep tight Marie you will be sadly missed xx."May Pollock wrote: "So sorry to hear about Marie, she was an amazing person ,will never forget her , thinking of you, we are here if you need anything at all xx."And Savannah Boreman noted: "Love you to the moon and back Lynne, I am still shocked beyond words but we’ll all be here when you get home."Neighbour Charlene Mullen, who stays next to the pair, said in a post addressed to Marie: "We started as neighbours and grew to become best friends."The laughter, jokes & sometimes cries we shared around the garden fire will live with me forever."I cannot believe I will never see you again."I am absolutely devastated for your wife."We will love you forever.
