A man seriously injured in a cliff plunge in which his girlfriend was killed is still haunted by the tragedy.Dominic Long survived the 50ft fall but Alesha Wright, 18, died in the incident in Thurso, Caithness, in July.
The 27-year-old was due to appear at Wick Sheriff Court this week for sentence on drug and bail offences. But his solicitor said that when Long turned up before the court started, he was clearly unwell.
She told the court he is “seriously struggling to cope with the burden that he survived the fall and Miss Wright didn’t”.She added: “Mentally, it is going to take him some time to recover.” Earlier this year we told how an air ambulance and coastguard crews attended the remote accident site but Alesha was pronounced dead at the scene.
Long was rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness in a ‘critical condition’ and was released the following week. Alesha’s family released a heartbreaking statement at the time in which they paid tribute to the popular young woman. They said: “We are absolutely devastated to have lost our darling Alesha, who was a much loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend to many.
