Scots festival organiser insists he's 'not a crook' as artists claim they are owed unpaid wages

The organiser of a music festival has insisted he’s “not a crook” after it was revealed some acts from this year’s event are waiting to be paid – while plans are under way to stage it again next year.Doune The Rabbit Hole boss Craig Murray said he aims to make enough money next year to pay off previous debts.

It comes after indie stars Belle & Sebastian revealed they have still not been paid in full after headlining the Stirling event in July.One musician launched a crowdfunder in a bid to drum up financial support for some of those waiting for payment.

Last week, the company behind the event, Doune The Rabbit Hole Festival Ltd, announced it was winding up due to major losses.But organisers said the festival would return next summer under the management of Festival Beverage and Property Services Ltd, which operated it in 2018 and 2019, and is run by Murray.The blogger and former diplomat said the cancellation of the festival in 2020 and 2021 resulted in losses of about £500,000.He said: “We’ve agreed with the liquidator that the way forward is to run the festival again.
