Scotland has a chance at World Cup glory despite Steve Clarke’s men missing out on a spot in Qatar. Fans will get to see their countrymen kicking a ball at the World Cup as the country’s top FootGolfers head to the US to battle it out against the best on the planet.
The cross between football and golf sees players kicking full-size footballs around golf courses with big holes. Scots have competed in previous FootGolf World Cups, as part of Team UK sides made up of players from Scotland, England and Wales.But this is the first time Scotland will compete in its own right in the competition.
The 10-day event in May features team and individual competitions and takes place in Florida. The FootGolf Association of Scotland has recently been accepted into the Federation for International FootGolf.
Joe McCourt, of Hamilton, finished 12th in the singles event at the 2018 World Cup, in Morocco, while playing for Team UK. Last year, he captained Scotland to victory in the Brainstrust Cup, an event in Fife against England and Wales.
