Renfrew man drove colleague home on Christmas Eve almost five times legal drink drive limit

A Renfrew man who got sozzled after his shift on Christmas Eve offered to give his work colleague a lift home.Scot Gammie of Fulbar Road, was almost five times the legal drink-drive limit when he got behind the wheel of his fiancé’s car after finishing his nightshift on Christmas Eve.Procurator fiscal depute Maria Murdoch told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 6.05am on December 24, police received a report that Gammie was on shift at his work in Hillington and appeared under the influence of alcohol.“The police were advised Gammie was due to finish at 6.30am and they were provided details of the vehicle he would be driving.“Police attended and observed two people within the car so they turned around and performed a traffic stop.“The accused was in the drivers seat and he stated he had offered his passenger who is a work colleague a lift home as he doesn’t drive.“Police asked the accused if he had insurance to drive this vehicle and he stated he didn’t.“Police carried out a PNC check which showed Gammie only had a provisional license.“After speaking with the passenger, police noted that he did not have a license either and therefore wasn’t qualified to a supervising passenger.“The accused was cautioned and was told he was required to carry out a road side breath test which he failed.“Gammie was taken to Govan police station where he was required to provide a further two breath samples which showed he had 96mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.“He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.” Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.
