Her Majesty The Queen has formally congratulated Ukraine on the country’s 31st anniversary of Independence from the Soviet Union.
In her address to the nation’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday 24 August, the 96 year old monarch said: “It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency and the people of Ukraine my warmest greetings on the celebration of your Independence Day. "In this most challenging year, I hope that today will be a time for the Ukrainian people, both in Ukraine and around the world, to celebrate their culture, history and identity. "May we look to better times in the future”.The message of support comes as Ukraine also marks its six month anniversary of the Russian invasion which was launched on February 24, and has lead to more than 6.7 million people being displaced in the biggest global refugee crisis since World War 2.
