Police investigating deliberate fire in new housing estate

Police are investigating after an unoccupied house on a new housing estate was torched last night.Residents of the new housing estate in Brookfield, Johnstone, raised the alarm shortly before 7pm on Friday evening.Three fire appliances raced to Merchiston Oval on the new estate where a new-build, two-storey detached house, which was still under construction, was ablaze.No-one was injured as a result of the fires, however, approximately £500,000 worth of damage has been caused.Using two main jets and one high reach, the fire was finally declared over by 11.10pm.Firefighters contacted Paisley police about the incident and they attended at 7pm.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

However they are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.Detective Sergeant Karen Boyd, of Paisley CID, said: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around that time is urged to get in touch.“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 3242 of 6 May. “Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 111 555, where anonymity can be maintained.” Download the FREE Renfrewshire Live app now for all the latest news, features and sport in your area.
