Phone lines 'helped to trap' major county lines drug gang, jury hears

For the latest Oldham news sign up to the MyOldham newsletter here A jury has heard how mobile phone calls and texts tracked to phone masts across the Pennines helped bust a gang running cocaine and heroin across county lines.

Simon Potter, 48, and Amanda Kershaw, 41, both deny conspiring to traffic Class A drugs between Manchester and York between April 22 and June 16 last year.

Prosecuting Deborah Smithies told the hearing at Bolton Crown Court how the drugs business was being run by Manchester-based drug lord Jack Smedley.

He has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, but it is alleged Potter and Kershaw were also actively involved in helping him from their flat in Cambridge Street, York.
