Perthshire World War Two evacuee is refusing to let crippling arthritis halt her passion for creativity as she embarks on a new project.

Dorothy McDermott (92) has paid tribute to the staff at Edinburgh’s Cramond Residence, who have helped her create dozens of colourful bead bowls, as orders have flooded in from family, friends, residents and staff.

The arts-loving pensioner, who was evacuated from Edinburgh to her aunt and uncle’s Perthshire home in 1939, was inspired during lockdown to experiment with colourful Hama Beads, which were originally created for children, but have proved a global hit with many adults as well.
