With season six of Outlander exploding back onto our screens after a long delay caused by the pandemic, fans are delighted to once again see their favourite cast.

With season seven having already been confirmed by Starz and the scripts already being given out to the stars, thoughts are turning to whether the show will go on for an eighth season. When asked about just this subject, showrunner Maril T Davies told Parade that she is hopeful that they will be able to get it off the ground.Maril said: “Listen, I’d love a Season 8, so I think we’re all ready to do it if we get the go-ahead.

But, obviously, yes, I hope [we find out] in enough time to do justice to it."Also, the longer we wait, the longer the Droughtlander would be because this show is such a massive endeavor, it takes a long time to get it up on its feet."I hope they tell us.

I would love to know earlier rather than later, so, hopefully, we will know soon."Though Starz are fully behind the project and it is likely they'll want it to keep going as long as possible, the problem might not lie with them. Both stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are beginning to draw some serious heat elsewhere with the Scot being touted for the role of James Bond, while Caitriona has been getting some serious plaudits for her work in Kenneth Branagh's Belfast. However, Maril isn't throwing in the towel anytime soon and it's likely she'll do everything in her power to keep the pair happy. With ten books to translate to the screen, it's likely the eighth season wouldn't be the final one.“I’d love to see it through to the end,” she said. “I think this has been such a fun project to work on.
