Salford Quays has been named as William Welsh. His grey Renault Megane taxi had been travelling on Trafford Road when it collided with a brown Audi A3 at around 9am on Thursday (10 September).

Mr Welsh, 46, from Cheetham Hill, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Salford Royal Hospital, where he sadly died on Saturday.

Police said the driver of the Audi A3 suffered minor injuries and is 'assisting officers with their enquiries.'A third vehicle, a black Audi A5 was also involved in the crash but the driver failed top stop at the scene.The driver, a 27-year-old man, was later arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.As news of Mr Welsh's death broke, tributes.
