North Lanarkshire residents will find out council tax details next month

North Lanarkshire householders will find out their council tax costs for the year ahead on February 17.Councillors will meet that day to set the local authority’s budget for 2022/23 – including determining any increase which should be applied to the bills for domestic properties for 2022/23.It follows last month’s Scottish budget at Holyrood, in which finance secretary Kate Forbes gave councils entirely free rein to decide on a council tax percentage rise for the first time in 15 years.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

North Lanarkshire Council’s (NLC) bills rose by three per cent in both 2018 and 2019 and then by the maximum permissible 4.84 per cent in February 2020; but was then frozen again last year in response to the COVID pandemic.

The Scottish Government provided additional funding for councils for doing so, with North Lanarkshire receiving £4.64m for the 12-month period to cover the cost.A spokesman for NLC said: “The annual budget meeting will be held on February 17.“Councillors will consider the budget for 2022-23 along with a decision on council tax rates for the next financial year.”Councils’ organisation COSLA has criticised the overall budget settlement from
