THE National Television Awards have been postponed after the death of the Queen. The ceremony - which was due to take place next week - honours TV's biggest shows and is a favourite of serial winners Ant and Dec.

The NTAs, which would have taken place on Thursday, will now happen in October instead. Hosted by The Masked Dancer's Joel Dommett, is is billed as "television's biggest night of the year" and is broadcast on ITV.

Organisers said in a brief statement: "We have taken the decision to postpone this year’s National Television Awards as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. "The 2022 NTAs will now take place on Thursday, 13th October, live from The OVO Arena Wembley." "The public vote will resume on Tuesday 20th September at 9am and remain open until the day of the ceremony." It was reported earlier today that bosses overseeing the event had held crisis talks over whether to go ahead with the glitzy show.

Given the Queen's death yesterday at the age of 96 has triggered a period of national mourning, it was decided to postpone the NTAs.
