Following their attendance at the funeral of Britain’s longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II, the Dutch Royal family have returned to work as today is their Prinsjesdag, or state opening of parliament.
In the Netherlands the state opening of Parliament always takes place on the third Tuesday of September and much like the British openings of parliament, this sees the monarch set out any policies for the coming parliamentary session.
King Willem-Alexander arrived to address the Senate and the House of Representatives, alongside his wife Queen Máxima and eldest daughter Princess Catharina-Amalia, the Princess of Orange and heir to the throne.
The Princess of Orange turned 18 earlier this year, so will attend the Prinsjesdag alongside her father from now on, as the heir to the throne.The Royals took the traditional carriage ride in the Glass Coach, with the streets lined with royalists and protesters alike.
