Kirkcudbright Community Tennis Club welcomed 142 youngsters to the club’s newly refurbished courts on Saturday. This was the final stage of a joint initiative between Tennis Scotland, Kirkcudbright Primary School and the Kirkcudbright Community Tennis Club.

In May and June, children from P4-P7 enjoyed a one hour session of fun tennis-related activities. This was followed up by an invite to all primary school children in the area to attend free coaching at the club on Saturday afternoons.

The road show coaching sessions were delivered by head coach Mark Sindall and coach Ryan Galloway. The club also worked with Amy Niven from the council’s Active Schools programme – a national scheme that offers school pupils the chance to take part in extra-curricular sport and physical activities in and out of school.

Any child who wasn’t able to attend last Saturday but would like to attend a free taster session, can email Chris Brown, the club’s junior co-ordinator, at kbtcommtennis@gmail.com Kirkcudbright Community Tennis Club also has opportunities for adults who might like to try a taster tennis session – for more details see https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/KirkcudbrightcommunityTennisClub
