Jake Kanter International TV EditorMipcom has announced that it is streamlining this year’s TV market by shortening the event and scrapping exhibitor stands, as it attempts to reassure delegates amid coronavirus-induced dropouts.Six big players have said this week they will not be attending Mipcom this year, including Fremantle, Sony, BBC Studios and ITV Studios.
Now, after a wave of negative headlines, the market has set out further safety plans.Mipcom will take place October 12-14, a day less than originally anticipated, while there will be no exhibition in the Palais des Festivals.
It has been dubbed Mipcom Rendezvous Cannes, with MIPJunior running alongside the main event. This is in addition to the virtual Mipcom Online+ offering.
