Michael O'Neill reveals Rangers boardroom encounter over Tyrese Campbell transfer as he admits 'high hopes' were dashed

Tyrese Campbell out of Rangers and Celtic's clutches. The Stoke City striker was a target for the Glasgow giants in summer 2019 but the former Northern Ireland boss ensured he remained with the Potters.He admits Campbell had "fallen through the cracks" in a bloated squad of almost 30 players.

But O'Neill was advised to give the youngster a chance and he later signed a new deal following an impressive upturn in form.

The manager then recalled being in the Ibrox boardroom for Rangers' clash with Hearts where he was approached by John Greig over the turnaround in Campbell's situation.

O'Neill told The Athletic : "Tyrese was going out of the club when I came. He’d checked out; six months to go, could sign a pre-contract, go cross-border.
