Our popular nostalgia series has returned and is on sale now, this time we are taking you back to the 1980s! It was a decade of Margaret Thatcher’s Britain – of yuppies, and power dressing, of the Miners’ Strike and privatisation.

And the 80s saw the nation at war following the invasion of the Falkland Islands. Tech started to have an impact on our lives, from home computers such as the Sinclair ZX80 Spectrum and Commodore 64, to the advent of video games and the CD.

MTV was born, while Live Aid had millions tuned into the star-studded concerts from Wembley and Philadelphia. The nation, and a reported 750 million people world-wide, tuned in for the biggest TV event of the decade on July 29, 1981 – the wedding of Princess Diana and the then Prince Charles at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Away from the major national and world news and sport, you will also find a collection of great pictures from our local archives that are sure to jog a few memories. Pick up your copy in selected supermarkets, high street retailers and independent newsagents until February 21 or BUY HERE.
