MASTERCHEF's Gregg Wallace has said he "wanted to die" at the height of his battle with booze that left him crippled from loneliness.

The 56-year-old, who credits his four-stone weight loss with cutting down on alcohol and taking up a healthy lifestyle, said he turned to the bottle to deal with feeling alone.

Gregg used to drink seven days a week at his local pub, but has admitted in a candid interview with OK! Magazine: "I felt like death. "All I wanted to do was go somewhere and die." He added he drank so heavily because he was going through a tough patch personally. "I was lonely.
