Manchester United are in the midst of a major rebuild in a bid to change their fortunes after years of mismanagement behind the scenes and disappointment on the pitch.
This season marks five since the club last won a trophy and nearly a decade since they last won the league and something needs to change.
Spearheading that change is John Murtough, who was appointed as the club's director of football last season. Richard Arnold has replaced Ed Woodward above him, but the new CEO has decided to delegate the footballing operation to people who have a better understanding than him — something many fans hoped his predecessor would have done before him.
And Murtough has already made big decisions. Head scout Jim Lawlor and global head of recruitment Marcel Bout have left the club as United look to overhaul their recruitment, with Erik ten Hag arriving as the new manager in the summer.
