Manchester Royal Infirmary unveils £40m A&E transformation project

The £40 million project will see the facilities modernised, with a more streamlined layout and increased capacity. Resuscitation bays in the emergency department will be boosted from six to 10 and another 11 majors cubicles will be added.

The plans, which have now been approved by Manchester City Council, also include the creation of six new operating theatres.

Construction will start at the Oxford Road site later this year. Temporary changes to the department's access and layout will be put in place to ensure it can operate fully while work
