Man charged with assaulting police officer following 12-hour stand off

Officers were called to Maple Close, in Kearsley, at about 8.30am on Wednesday morning (May 12) to reports of a man on a roof.

The stand-off finally came to an end at around 9pm. The man was arrested but while in custody a police officer was spat at. Stephen Wallwork, 31, of South Avenue, Kearsley, has since been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

He has been remanded into custody after breaching the conditions of his license following his release from prison. He is due to appear at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, May 26.
