Man charged with assault after 'two police officers spat at by man claiming to have Covid-19'

A man has been charged after reports two officers were spat at by a man claiming to have Covid-19 following an assault in Salford.

Jon Smee, of no fixed abode, has been charged with one count of Section 18 assault, two counts of assault on an emergency worker, one count of possession of an offensive weapon, one count of obstructing police and two counts of breach of bail.

The 28-year-old has been remanded in custody, a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said. He is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday, May 13.
