A man has appeared in court following a stabbing outside a newsagents in Hulme which left another man requiring hospital treatment.

Paul Maguire, 55, entered no plea to charges of possession of an offensive weapon, namely a lock knife, in a public place and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

Police and ambulance were called to Stretford Road to reports of a 'commotion' outside a newsagents just after 6pm on Monday 18 May.

Mobile phone camera footage showed a significant response to the incident by the emergency services. A 31-year-old man was taken to hospital with a stab injury to his leg.
