Los Angeles Covid-19 Update: 1 In Every 80 L.A. Residents Infected; No End In Sight For “Disastrous Surge”

“I want to be clear: Our hospitals are under siege and there is no end in sight,” said Los Angeles County’s Director of Health Services, Dr.

Christina Gahly. “Unless we remain more vigilant and more diligent through the holidays and beyond, we will not be able to stop the surge.”That surge reached new heights on Wednesday as Los Angeles reported yet another record number of new cases and deaths.

Los Angeles County reported 138 new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday, by far the highest daily number of fatalities reported by the county at any point during the pandemic.

The county also reported 21,411 new cases. Although about 7,000 of those cases are the result of a reporting backlog, Wednesday’s total still surpasses the previous daily
