Having scored a glut of goals at Tannadice, and at Ayr United before that, it was Shankland’s chance to do it at a higher level.On the face of it, scoring five in 26 games might not look great on his CV, given the numbers he’s currently racking up at Hearts.
But that doesn’t tell the full story of the Scotland forward’s time in Belgium. Frederic Frans was a team-mate of Shankland’s at Beerschot that year, when the club were relegated from the top flight.
Despite having current Chelsea star Moises Caicedo, on loan from Brighton, at the time it was a horrible campaign for them.There was unrest off the pitch and results were poor on it.
